Taproom Workshop: How to Ferment the Garden Harvest

Fermenting the Garden Harvest with Dawn Story of Farmstead Ferments                                                              

Learn how easy it is to transform the garden harvest – or whatever ingredients are available -- into nutritious and delicious fermented foods using the ancient technique of lacto-fermentation.

In this hands-on class, participants will acquire the basic skills for creating fermented krauts, pickles, and condiments, plus take some home for future learning and enjoyment. Health benefits and history of fermented foods, troubleshooting, and incorporating these deeply nourishing foods into your life will also be discussed.

We’ll also sample a wide variety of sauerkrauts, kimchi and pickles to inspire your own creations.

WHAT TO BRING: Sharp knife for cutting vegetables

Optional: grater, vegetable peeler, cutting board, two quart-sized mason jars with lids, large mixing bowl

Cost: $25 per person -OR- $20 per person if you sign up with a friend!

How to Brew Your Own Kombucha with Ethan Zuckerman, Co-Founder of Blue Ridge Bucha                                                                     

Learn how simple it can be to make your own kombucha at home. Ethan will share recipes and expertise from his tried and true homebrewing method, a process that is easy for participants to replicate at home. This session is appropriate for both beginning and seasoned kombucha brewers. Ethan has been brewing kombucha for more than fifteen years. He and his wife launched their sustainable, organic kombucha company in 2010.

Getting Started with Sourdough with Heather Coiner, Co-owner of Little Hat Creek Farm                                                                     

Sourdough bread is a process more than a specific style of bread. Learn how to start and maintain a sourdough culture (it is easier than you think!), and then how to vary your process to create the bread you dream of. Bring your questions, and a jar to take home some starter. Heather has been baking sourdough bread professionally for six years, and started the wood-fired bakery at Little Hat Creek Farm in 2013.

Start your Saturday off right with an hour of yoga and a glass of kombucha!

The classes are designed for a group with mixed experience- so if you’re new to yoga, please feel free to stop by and try it out. Each class is $10 (please bring cash or check). Everyone receives a free tasting flight or 12oz kombucha!
